Night Club DJ

I’ve been interested in music from a young age and scarily enough I liked music from genres that didn’t fit my piers.  I liked jazz, swing, blues and classical over the load rock and 80’s trashy pop of era I went to primary school.   I reckon you can blame me wanting to become a DJ on the mobile disco operators that visited Wauchope Public School  and played all the hits of the day.

But I really got into deejaying when I was just 14 years old, when I worked for three different disco companies until signing on for a small stint the Wauchope RSL Club until the DownUnder Nite Club snapped came along and offered me in march 2000 the Friday and Saturday and I have stayed as resident  DJ there till the present day when now I am starting to take a back seat an only doing Saturday nights. During the time at the night club we moved from using CD’s to a digital play out system on a laptop. The boss also moved to this system after I was able to prove it was a viable and thus valuable option for the club to use.

This photo below was taken a few years back in the deejay box back when we were still using CD’s

Deejaying is a strange art, you can pack a club out and keep people on the dance floor all night but if they don’t go to the bar its pointless.  You have to watch what is going on the floor, judge the mood of people and be able to read a crowd.  Also deal with customer agro or nice and allow it to roll of a ducks back, its hard but the challenge is fun.  Format shifting the club from CD’s to mp3’s was an interesting challenge but it makes it easier for us to do everything.   All I need now is a computer, some software and terabyte hard drive full of music instead of bringing boxes with me.
